Guns and Knives
EVERYWHERE!
I have an incredible husband. Really, I do. He is smart, funny, and a true-blue country boy at heart. What’s not to love, right? I do have one small complaint, though. It’s just a little one. The man is crazy about his home security.
It all started when we moved into our home and he strategically placed all kinds of guns in hidden places. He would constantly drill me about the location of the gun closest to me when we were in different rooms at random times. Then he ordered the knives.
Gullah Low Country South Carolina
If you want to really get down to some good country eating in the Low Country of South Carolina, then you need to take yourself to St. Helena Island, man, and head on down to the Gullah Grub, a restaurant that features the cooking of the Gullah people who settled along the coastal region long back a few day ago. Here is one restaurant you will remember for the rest of your life. Once featured on Martha Stewart’s Living, this not so out of the way little place features authentic cooking from the low country, in the Gullah style.
Pros and Cons of Country Life
People who live in the country and adopt a true country lifestyle have a different overall mindset than those who prefer to dwell in urban areas, or even in the relatively tame suburban neighborhoods with semi-identical houses spaced evenly along paved roads, often ending in cul-de-sacs. For the country lover, being so close in with neighbors would seem a tight squeeze. The constant sounds of cars whizzing past and horns honking, combined with the unsavory aroma of automobile exhaust would bring a migraine on for a country boy or girl in no time flat. There’s a lot of evidence to support the idea that living in the country is healthier for people, mentally and physically.
Country Folks Can Survive
Okay, so I will in the country, not under a rock and I just finished reading the widely popular books in The Hunger Games series. Those books were so amazing. Not only were they gripping and thrilling, but the idea that something like that could actually happen plays in my head and makes it all the more interesting. I was talking about how realistic the books seem to some friends, and we got on the topic of what we would do if it were us, and for some reason the song “A Country Boy Can Survive” just kept popping into my head. While it’s pretty funny that this was my first thought on survival, it isn’t all that inaccurate.
Preserving the Country Life
Being surrounded by nature, having the freedom to traverse the land uninhibited and knowing your neighbors’ name are just a few of the perks of country living and the farmers’ style of existence. However, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, it’s becoming more and more difficult to sustain this lifestyle as big corporations buy local land or create monopolies in certain markets. And this doesn’t just affect the people living out the country either. The folks who live in bigger cities but still want the opportunity to go to the country when to visit or stay for a while are also losing their connection with nature. Even though it can sometimes feel like the little guy can never win the battle, there are some things you and your family can do to help preserve country life and the welfare of the people living in this environment.
